Trollhättan

Green hydrogen for mobility. 5 MW

Trollhättan is an inland town on the river Göta älv, upstream from Gothenburg. It is known for its hydropower locks, film studios and a long industrial history linked to engineering and the automotive sector. In the coming years, Trollhättan will also become a local node for green hydrogen, supplying trucks and local industry with fossil‑free fuel.

In Trollhättan a hydrogen plant is planned to supply hydrogen for mobility and, in a next step, for nearby industrial users. It will be 5 megawatt and produced with renewable electricity from wind, solar and hydropower. The entire planned capacity for 2028 is spoken for but the plant is designed so that capacity can be scaled up in the future when demand increases. On site, the hydrogen will be compressed and loaded into special trailers for transport to refuelling stations and other customers, while waste heat from the electrolysers will be recovered and fed into the municipal district heating network. By placing the plant in an existing industrial area with water and wastewater infrastructure, and by reusing heat in the local energy system, Trollhättan becomes a compact example of how green hydrogen production can be integrated into an established town – close to both users and existing grids. This project is led by Libra Horizon, a joint venture between Scandinavian Horizon and EnBW Sverige.

The hydrogen valley

The hydrogen valley is a dual valley consisting of two hubs, the West Coast Hub and the High Cost Hub.
